Boardshop & Bristol Surf Club Join Forces

Boardshop.co.uk Europes largest online surf shop is pleased to annouce its new partnership with the Bristol Surf Club.

Bristol Surf club is one of the countries largest surf clubs with over 300 members and growing at around 20% each year. Bristol Surf Club meet at the pumphouse every Thursday night to talk surfing and generally catch up. This year they have also run a very successful competition for the member. Boardshop surf shop is now an official partner and sponsor of the Bristol Surf Club and is pleased to be working along side them.

The relationship has been formed to try and get boardshop to hook up all members with the latest surfboards, wetsuits and accessories at fantastic prices 365 days a year. Boardshop are also expanding and developing there roots at a club level to reach beginners, intermediate and advanced surfers.  Boardshop wants to get more people in the water and surfing, hopefully with the guys at BSC and others we can get more people out doors and into the water.

Firewire Surfboard Construction

Sam Lamiroy UK professional surfer and Firewire team Rider has spent some time over the last few years with the guys at Firewire over in the States. Chuy Reyna an ex pro surfer who is heavily involved with all the R&D behind these boards has taught Sam all he knows about each construction and design. We managed to track Sam down between surfs to give us this fantastic description about the boards.

Sam’s range of boards includes an alternator and dominator amongst others.

The video covers all the Firewire Technologies available, FST (FUTURE SHAPES TECHNOLOGY), Rapidfire (Bamboo lamination) and Direct Drive (Solid Carbon rod core).

Oneill wetsuits was started by Jack O’neill a man who started making wetsuits just so he could surf more. The suits allowed him to go out more when the weather was colder and stay out longer. A fact for you, Jack Oneill wears a patch and damaged his eye surfing. In years past leashes were coiled and springy. One day his board just popped back a smacked him in the face, damaging his eye. Although a tragic story it shows how as a sport develops and grows, injuries occur.

We owe Jack alot! Leashed changed and suits have got better and better.

If you can’t surf what do you do

In the world today there is only a small percentage of people lucky enough to be able to head off and go surfing whenever they want! Yes I am jealous. 
No matter what the weather is doing as long as the swell is good they can follow it and some are lucky enough to travel the world at the same time too.
For the rest of us we have to mix our love of surfing reading about the lastest boards shapes, secret sports, blue waters and boat trips. 
Hey thats life and there is always the holidays.

I Want to try and use this to present you with varied videos and posts of the surfing industry and the people behind it.

I wanted to start you off with an inspirational piece of footage which helps to show you in superslow motion why we all love and enjoy surfing so much. The power of waves and the beauty of them in action. Obviously being surfed at the same time as well. Many will have seen this clip but its always worth watching – Taken from BBC’s South Pacific.

We might not get waves like those in the South Pacific in England but lots of practice here in the UK means you enjoy your trips away to Bali, Costa Rica or Marocco that bit more.
